19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.
The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a torrid period, winning just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.
The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.
Presently training with his coach and Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.
It is his maiden championship following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt since March of 2023.
The win also means the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at 21 various competitions.
"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six finals, including in Halle previously this season.
His retrieving strategy and frequent reactions on the playing surface had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to perform at the elite level was concluded.
However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, striving to come to the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an improved serve.
The champion came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult opponent, taking 4 of the last five points to go ahead.
The competitors traded service breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his initial ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to create a third set.
He saved four initial chances in a close third set before Medvedev broke to 15 to serve for the match.
Suitably, the winner secured victory with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
