Ten individuals found guilty of digital abuse targeting Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has convicted ten people for carrying out the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the wife of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced charges of circulating untruths regarding her sex and sexual orientation, in addition to posting defamatory statements about the husband and wife's significant age difference.
The court handed down suspended prison sentences of a maximum of eight months to the perpetrators. The detailed judgment has still to be made public.
A persistent conspiracy theory claiming that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has spread widely since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This recent ruling in France is concurrent with the Macrons engaging in a legal action for defamation in the United States of America against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared comparable unfounded claims about the first lady's biological sex.
Their lawsuit contends that Owens ignored all credible evidence contradicting her allegations choosing instead to give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has often echoed these allegations on her podcast and social networks, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her belief that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her now-husband when she was a teacher at his lycée.
The couple tied the knot in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
